Understanding Acyclovir

Almost similar as Zovirax, Acyclovir, for those who are not familiar, is a drug or substance used to slow down the effect of anti viral disease such as chicken pox, herpes zosters and genital herpes.

It helps by reducing the period or duration require for a patient to heal from all of the above disease. Its natures focuses more on preventing genital herpes from worsen for the patients but it does not cure nor stop the spreading of the disease to anyone who comes in direct contact.

Acyclovir is prescription based drug that require it to be administered by a certified physician, in which it has to follow a certain and rigid medication guidelines. Acyclovir comes in three main forms, a capsule, a table and a suspension to be taken by mouth. The drug is administered once the symptoms start to show, it has to follow the schedule that is set, for example 5 times a day, and continuously within 5 to 10 days. But as the initial prevention measure from herpes outbreaks, the duration may prolong up to 12 months. The medication has to be taken according to what has been prescribed because skipping or stopping may cause the infection may not be fully treated and may become difficult to treat.

Based on the description of the medication or drug, everyone has to be reminded that Acyclovir does not cure nor stop the spreading of herpes, it acted more as anti viral to provide the patient times so that the body itself can fight the infection by slowing down the spreads as well as the growth of the virus.
